The Reasons Why Anyone Should Love Alex Mercer
remember when Alex Mercer had depth as a character
That's the thing about PTII that I hated the most, fucking over Alex's character to the point of no return and shoehorning Heller in as the ~good guy protag~. I read the special comics they released and honestly it made the game so much worse, at least on Alex's side. GUUUHHHHH
The interesting part of the first game IMO was that the virus “alex” was more empathetic and capable of human emotions than the actual Alex Mercer ever was. I feel like if a game could be a psychological thriller this would be in the category. It’s really interesting to me from that perspective. Alex grows from the beginning (early life — his first week) of only looking for immediate needs and gradually gains empathy for his “sister” and for ragland and cross to an extent. The human Alex would never have done that—not that i’m saying it was his fault he was a psychopath, the foster system is fucking awful. However with the events of the last game, with virusAlex pretty much sacrificing his life to save the city and the people he cared about in it (he most likely didn’t know he was going to survive a nuclear blast) thus showing he had developed passed the beginning ID stage of development at the age of around 3 weeks. It’s basically an accelerated view of the growth of a human psyche and asks the question of what it truly means to be human.
TL;DR I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT PROTOTYPE
